With each new wave of computers and telecommunication projects, the fast-growing field of information technology is becoming more and more valuable.

The nice thing about IT training is it has constantly evolved over the years with time. From basic infrastructure to local networks to cellular networks and the Internet, the IT field constantly has evolved, changed and grown into something different. The pay and demand aren’t bad, either; a recent article from Information Week cited a looming shortage of tech workers in the United States.

That is why information technology training degrees are becoming more popular on college campuses. It is a field potentially lucrative because of the vast amount of hands-on training and experience needed with these projects.

The beauty of information technology is it can accommodate workers with any form of college or training. An associate’s degree, commonly obtained from community colleges or two-year tech programs, can do for a worker just getting his or her feet wet in the tech field.

Workers who want more experience can go for four-year bachelor’s degrees from colleges, or they may go for masters programs and the ability to succeed at the highest level possible.

To prepare for this field, IT online training courses, such as IT security courses, plenty of computer science classes, and technology-oriented courses will get you to the level of experience needed to go for one of these lucrative careers.

There are several careers that can result from IT training, and these are just a few of the possibilities you can go for with IT training:

Help-desk Issues

Have you ever been in an office, experienced computer issues and called for help from tech support? Congratulations. You have now met someone that likely had training in the IT field. People that commonly assist with small issues have likely had training of a couple years, while those that look into the computers themselves may have a bit more of a college or tech-school background, perhaps three or four years of classes.

Web Development

IT degrees can help you as you enter the computer field. You will have enough of a background to create web applications, which are essentially new programs designed to finish a specific job. You might create a new search engine, for example. With hundreds of new programs available every year, chances are someone might be hungry for a new and innovative concept.

Protection and Guarding

Those with a background in IT security courses may be interested in this field. With so many hackers and undesirables trying to go after passwords and online identities, there are programs out there designed to protect individuals from harm like safe browsers, key-scramble programs and firewalls. These programs have to be built and constructed by people with a background in information technology.

Applications for mobile

Just like web development, the phrase “now there’s an app for that” especially applies to cell and smart phones. Have you ever seen a new app, rolled your eyes and wondered what they would think of next? Just when you think you have heard it all, along comes something new. People with IT degrees can succeed in this field with little difficulty.

Network administration

No, we’re not talking about being a president at ABC or CBS here. This revolves around the network of computers in your office. Someone needs to oversee these computers and make sure they are all connected to the same network without any problems. One hiccup could cause major headaches, and these administrators are responsible for support, installation and management of a company’s online or computer systems.

Again, these fields are lucrative. The United States Department of Labor website suggests starting salaries anywhere from $46,000 for support specialists to $100,000 for research specialists.

The money is great, but so is the knowledge. The IT field is growing and booming, so it is definitely worth checking out.

Entering college is a stressful, but fun time for many young adults. The stress comes from making decisions about the next step after college and the fun comes from the overall experience. If you’re not sure what you want to major in, you need a few practical choices to explore. Here are three great options for anybody to consider as a college major.

Three Potential Majors

1. Criminal Justice

A criminal justice major is the first step into one of many different career options dealing with crime and law. The field covers a broad range of possibilities, which provides plenty of job choices and it’s also one of the fastest growing fields in the United States.

Many government jobs start with a criminal justice major and the benefits of a government job are plentiful. Working for the government offers many employee benefits, such as a 401(k) plan, health insurance, retirement plans and many other benefits. With a degree in criminal justice, you are more likely to land one of these stable government jobs.

Of course, money is always a motivating factor for any major and criminal justice jobs offer an average starting salary over $35,000 a year. Many positions within the field start at even larger salaries and these entry-level positions are the perfect springboard into a position paying even more.

2. Graphic Design

A degree in graphic design offers many benefits, along with flexibility. Those pursuing a major in graphic design will enter into a competitive field with plenty of growth opportunities. This field offers the ability to work as a freelancer or even run your own business. Many of the best degree programs are found in Miami and you can choose from a two or four year program. Taking graphic design courses in Miami also offers a more enjoyable college experience in a warm climate.

Adding a web design or animation minor to your graphic design degree can make you an even more desirable candidate for the highest paying positions. Since a large amount of design work is now used for websites, it’s important to understand how web design works. With a specialty within the graphic design field, you can command a larger salary when you enter the job market.

3. Marketing

Marketing is one of the largest fields any college graduate can enter. There’s a universal need for good marketers and the income potential is very high. The industry is expected to grow by over 40% in the next ten years and the average annual earnings are over $120,000 annually. A marketing degree can also open many other doors in the business world and with the strong communication skills you will develop, many employers will find your skills very desirable.

Figuring out what you want to major in isn’t an easy decision and it’s very important. Many things should be considered and students should never make a decision based solely on the potential earnings. Take your time to think about what you really want to spend your life doing and take a few classes in an area you are interested in before you decide to declare it as your major.

Careers in health care are at an all-time high as the aging population and new technological advances have made it possible to treat more patients for a longer period of time. One of the areas in which there has been a substantial amount of growth is in the field of medical billing and coding. This is because every procedure that is completed for a patient, as well as every medical device used, must be noted so that insurance agencies and individual patients can expect accurate billing for medical services.

Therefore, anyone interested in the wide open field of medical billing and coding will need to obtain a top-level education in order to develop their career in this burgeoning health care specialization.

Educational Experiences A quality education in medical billing and coding is essential for success in this field. Students who do best in medical billing and coding generally have an interest in medical technologies as well as the ability to learn a highly technical vocabulary. Additionally, prospective students should have an interest in helping others to obtain a higher level of health.

Medical billing and coding programs such as the ones that are available at www.sanfordbrown.edu can be completed through a variety of formats. Many students prefer to learn medical billing and coding online. While this format is successful, it is also important to choose a degree program that will provide a quality education from an accredited institution.

Flexible Employment Once a person has completed their education in medical billing and coding, they can expect to be able to find employment in a wide range of health care environments. Many medical billers and coders work alongside medical staff at clinics, hospitals and other health care environments. However, this field also allows for the opportunity to work from home using online resources.

When medical billers and coders work from home, they are often able to set their own hours and enjoy the flexibility that is offered through a work from home position with a medical company.

Opportunities for Advancement In medical billing and coding, there are always opportunities for a person to advance in their career. Gaining experience is one way to obtain better employment opportunities. However, most people find that continuing their education is essential for continuous progress in medical billing and coding careers. Because new research and techniques often lead to new medical terminology, it is essential for anyone in this field to maintain their awareness of new practices.

Medical billing and coding is a lucrative career to explore as it provides people with the opportunity to quickly progress in their career through furthering their education. Additionally, a career in medical billing and coding can offer employees a flexible work environment that includes being able to set their own hours and complete their work from home.

The Common Core Standards in Mathematics were developed to provide a consistent education for students throughout the United States as a response to the growing problem of students entering college without the needed skills to be successful in advanced studies. Therefore, a team of experts in education was formed who worked with other educational staff members to develop a list of core concepts that should be taught within every classroom in America.

The goal of the Common Core Standards in Mathematics is not to tell teachers how they should teach, but to encourage every educator to begin to take the initiative to ensure that every student leaves their classroom with an understanding of the concepts outlined for each grade level. For anyone who is interested in learning more about the Common Core Standards in Mathematics for the elementary age student, the following information will be important to read carefully.

Primary School Overview

In early elementary school, the focus of the Standards is on introducing basic mathematical concepts to students that will provide them with a firm foundation on which to build their skills as they progress through the educational system. Therefore, students begin in Kindergarten by learning to rote count and recognize numbers, and then will leave fifth grade with an understanding of mathematical operations.

While the Standards do not provide accommodations for students with special needs at the primary school level, it is expected that educators will implement any special accommodations as needed in order to help every student to meet the standards that are outlined for their grade level.

Kindergarten through Second Skills

The Common Core Standards in Mathematics begin in Kindergarten by teaching children basic information about numbers and mathematical operations. While a brief overview will be given here of the basic skills that are expected of each grade level, a more thorough checklist of common core math standards, as well as tools that can help a child better learn, can be found at Dream Box Learning.

In Kindergarten, students will be expected to know number names as well as to be able to count the number of objects within a given set. In first grade, a student will build upon their numbers and operations skills by beginning to add and subtract objects within a set of 20. They will also be expected to perform simple measurements as well as to be able to tell time. As students leave second grade, they will begin to blend their understanding of measurement with mathematical operations by determining length and width of areas.

Third through Fifth Grade Skills

In third grade, students will have advanced to working with multiplication and division within the first 100 numbers. They will also be beginning to develop their understanding of fractions. Fourth graders will be introduced to geometry as they begin to work with lines and angles. They will also be able to perform more complicated mathematical operations within larger groups of numbers. By fifth grade, students will begin to work with decimals as well as be able to analyze date while using a graph. As students emerge from their primary school years, they will have a firm grasp on the skills that they will need to build upon in their middle school education.

When educators implement the Common Core Standards for Mathematics in their classrooms, then they are able to direct their lessons towards the skills that students will need throughout their academic years. Therefore, checklists have been developed to serve as a guideline for ensuring that students are able to meet the goals that are outlined by the Common Core Standards in Mathematics.

The California college system, which was once looked upon as a model system to emulate in other states, has been struggling mightily in recent months. Thanks to heavy budget cuts, many of the public universities in the state are having to cut back on the programs they can offer their students. Here are a few of the ramifications and considerations revolving around this issue:

Effects of Budget Cuts

The effect of these budget cuts on California universities has been subtle, but it is starting to make a noticeable impact. The sizes of classes have increased, which lowers the amount of time that each individual student interacts with professors. Some courses have been completely cut out, which reduces the number of opportunities that students have to learn.

Tuition costs have also gone up significantly in recent years. Students also have fewer summer class options available in front of them. Some schools cannot even meet common core standards in math.

Top Schools Impacted

In the past, universities such as UCLA and Cal Berkeley were regarded as top educational institutions. In recent years, administrators at these schools didn’t seem concerned about budget cuts, and tried to tell people that they weren’t a problem. Now, many of those same administrators are starting to worry, and aren’t shy about mentioning it publicly.

In many colleges and universities, the number of student advisors has been cut back significantly. For example, at UC Riverside, the total number of advisors dropped from 500 to 300, even though the number of students has continued to rise. Currently, they have more than 18,000 students working with these 300 advisors.

Controversy

Some have proposed a tax increase to help fund these public universities. This has led to a growing controversy within the state. Some who do not like the idea of paying additional taxes think that the colleges should cut more in order to work with the funds that they currently receive. They argue that some programs are non-essential, and the schools could also cut the pay of upper-level executives and staff.

Although the problem in California is troubling, the thought of what could be coming for colleges across the country is even more concerning. Many other states are going through similar budget shortfalls, and the secondary education institutions may feel the brunt of this. Some worry that this could eventually turn into an epidemic across the country. It remains to be seen how California and the rest of the country will handle this issue.
